Lichen sclerosis

A Rare, But Treatable Condition

Lichen Sclerosis is a rare skin condition that mostly affects post-menopausal women and manifests itself as patches on your genitals, anus, upper arms, torso, and breasts. Although the cause of Lichen Sclerosis is not known, some suspect that it may be due to genes, injury, hormones or an infection.

As this disease can lead to urination problems or other sexual problems if left untreated, you should seek treatment if you have it on your genitals. Although there’s no cure for Lichen Sclerosis, the Charlotte Center for Pelvic Health offers some of the only treatments that have proven to be successful in treating its symptoms.

Dr. Hettiarachchi is the Charlotte-area expert in effective Lichen Sclerosis treatment. This treatment uses the MonaLisa, which requires specialized settings and protocols. He has been able get the majority of his Lichen Sclerosis patients off of topical steroid creams.
